Silent Dance Party Spring 2011 + Mix Competition

// April 21st, 2011 // No Comments » // Events

UPDATE: Download Mixes here See you all on Upper Sproul Today!
Check the Facebook Page.

Check out our Previous Silent Dance Parties.

Silent Dance Party is a massive electronic dance music party that takes place every semester on UC Berkeley's Campus hosted by elecTONIC. Unlike those who wishes to express their individuality while displaying their boobies and moobies streaking through the campus causing many "uhhhs" and "ewws" (well not like they care) we, the participants of Silent Dance Party gather to celebrate our uniqueness through the music that we love and the moves we bust to it. Trust me, we still shake our boobies and moobies, but with class (clothes) on.

So here is how it works, first go to the facebook event page because it will tell you everything you need to know. Click attend to join the revolution and share with all your friends by tagging, twitter, tumblring etc. On the day of the event, VERY IMPORTANT: to come back to this page because we will tell you which mixes you will be dancing to. We will put a download a link and you put that hour of golden music on to your iphone, ipod, ipad, itouch, iwhatever.

Now for the mix competition: we are selecting the 3 best 10 min mixes + 2 walking mixes to take our dancer through the journey. If you think you got what it takes to keep our boobies and moobies shaking for 10 mins non-stop. Please Submit your mixes here I will be one of the judges this year and this is a promotional mix I did for the event. Hopefully, it will get you pumped.

Top Techno Songs: Best techno songs from 2010 to March 2011

// March 30th, 2011 // 6 Comments » // music genre informative

What are the “top, best techno songs” so far? I always wanted know what goes on in people’s heads when I give the non-conventional answer to “what kind of music you play?” I had trouble in the past replying with “I play techno music” and there are some good reasons for it. The techno I’m talking about is not the extremely over-used term that lumps all genres of electronic dance music together known to most people as “techno”. So I always feel guilty and because the techno I’m talking about would probably scare the average inquirers away.  What “techno music” am I talking about? I’m talking about minimal techno”.

I say this every year, so I’ll just say it again now that techno is making a come back in 2011. It’s time for people to understand techno is not some boring 4 bar loop that just repeats over and over. Techno music is the abstract art of electronic dance music, it’s simple beats creates complex rhythms, using minimal amount of synths and other things to create music (or art) that is seriously over 9000 times more complicated. Enough of me babbling about how much I loooove techno, let me show you what I mean.

The song that gave me that feeling for a come back is ironically named “Back In the Race” by Umek and Beltek. Released toward the end of 2010, this track certainly had all the elements of being a completely dance floor destroyer, I kid you not, listen to this and all other tracks with good sound system/headphones please.

Next up: “Booka Shade – Regenerate (Pan-Pot Remix)” This song completely blew my mind, I mean come on it uses gunshots as lead-ins for the bass drops. Gunshot + Bass = you can’t be more dead if you don’t think it’s legitmately badass.

Moving right along to some underground techno, I discovered this acid remix of 303 by Spencer and Hill, mind blown again. 303 for those that care refers the Roland TB303 Bass Line and it has a well-known “acid” sound. mmm acid…sound

Definitely not the last best techno song so far, I gotta give to my man Cirez D a.k.a EPIC Prydz, Pryda – Eric Prydz. Your track “Tomorrow”  really makes me wondering why you haven’t won a nobel prize yet for being the sickest producer like ever. It’s time to join the dark side :)
