Regarding the music video

// September 27th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Uncategorized

If you asked a random person on a street what a normal dance music video would be like, you’d probably get a response about hot chicks in very revealing clothing (or lack thereof) dancing at a club or outside at night. While this is true, it doesn’t account for the sheer number of amazing electronica music videos out there for the viewing.

For example, the nearly ubiquitous dancing is sometimes transplanted into a surprising setting (like Calvin Harris’s mad scientist lab):

Some contain dancing, but have the focus on something else entirely:

Of course, flashiness is a recurring motif. Simian Mobile Disco’s Audacity of Huge visually represents the seemingly random song lyrics:

While Justice’s DVNO does the same thing, but using text effects:

Sometimes, they can present meaningful commentary on society:

But of course, a lot of times, they just don’t make that much sense.

Then again, isn’t that the point? Don’t think, just do.

Triple Play!

Umek CD cover
I’ll start off with free stuff (who doesn’t like free stuff??) from Slovenian producer Umek, whose work has been turning up in a wide range of places, from the standard Armada releases to a spot on John Digweed’s Transitions Vol. 3. He’s probably best known for a slew of collaborations with fellow Slovenian Beltek, including Army of Two and Option to Stimulate. Anyway the free and very solid acid house styled single can be found –> here. <--

Next up is a little remix contest of Automatic by Funkerman. Funkerman is one of those guys where you’ve heard his material but never his name; Energy 92.7 played his earlier Speed Up to death. “Automatic” is a catchy piano-driven house track (hm… where have we seen that before?) with plenty of soul in it, so it’s ample game for you amateur producers out there. For the inclined, you can enter right here.

Oh, and speaking of remixes, iTunes has the EP for Calvin Harris’ I’m Not Alone for a jaw-dropping 1.99. With remixes from Tiesto, Deadmau5, and Herve, you’d better pick this up before iTunes changes the price (as it did with Oceanlab’s On a Good Day). Go. Go now. Don’t look back.
