KoolKat // president

mack

a.k.a. Mack Levine, DJ Koolkat is a fidget house, breaks and dubstep DJ, playing everything in between–dancehall, UK funky, 2-step garage, bassline, nu skool jungle tekno–you name it. Pretty much everything is fair game for this product of hardcore and the LA rave scene, currently based in Oakland.

Mack chaired Education for elecTONIC in the Fall, teaching bored engineering students how to spin records and giving lectures about electronic music history. He will be serving as the club’s new president for the Spring semester of 2011.

Mixes, remixes, originals, and mashups are posted to http://www.soundcloud.com/dj-koolkat He can be reached for booking and various other shenanigans at deejaykoolkat@gmail.com

Erin // administrative chair

erin

Hi all I’m Erin Bjornsson and I’m a third year Chemical Engineering and Environmental Sciences double major (what?!) My musical interests dip into almost every genre, electronic and not, and I love anything with a great beat. I spend all my time and money at concerts and festivals and I love to travel for music. I’m a dedicated Coachella fan and I hit up many music festivals and shows in California and the US. I was the President of elecTONIC for Fall 2010, and I’m psyched continue being Administrative Chair for this semester. Outside of music and nightlife, I’m into piercing, art, fashion, costuming, meeting new people, traveling, beach days, food, wasting my time on Reddit, going on adventures and cutting my own hair.

James // events chair

james

Born in 1990, Bay Area California based James Mitchell, DJ Mezzanine (or simply Mezz as he is known to his fans) was raise in an artistically ambivalent family. His mother, an accomplished mother, and his father, a hard-working engineer, immersed James into a world of music. First spinning in his mother’s womb, DJ Mezzanine moved on to a computer the day he was born and never looked back.

Picking up gigs all over his friend’s apartments and even his parent’s living-room, DJ Mezzanine taught himself everything he knows and stays on top of the very latest in Electro House, Trance, Prog House, Dubstep, Hard Electro, and dance remixes of “We Are the People”.

With his killer triage (kandi bracelets, great taste, and flanger on/off button), DJ Mezzanine is sure to make the ladies sweat at a dance floor near you!

Phil // education chair

phil

Hi I’m Philip “DJ Phil” Tamaki, a DJ and Producer and have been involved in EDM every since I downloaded Tiesto’s “Silence” remix. Since then, I’ve attended many events and I love how electronic music brings people together. My favorites event have been Lovefest 2007 and Ageha in Tokyo on Halloween in 2010.

As a DJ, I like to play anything that gets the crowd moving – I’m open to any genre, but have a passion for Techno. I mix on CDJs.

I’m a produce with Reason and you can check out my stuff at Soundcloud, and also Youtube.

As education committee chair, my goal is to teach people how to DJ, produce, and learn about the vibrant culture of EDM. We want EDM to grow and for more people to understand the essence of DJing.

Stephanie // publicity co-chair

steph

Hullo everyone. (: I’m Stephanie and I’m currently a second-year Berkeley student from the lovely Bay Area, majoring in Applied Math (because I want to take as few real math classes as possible). I’m a sucker for songs with catchy beats, so it was only inevitable that I would fall in love with electronic music one day. I started listening to trance in high school, but I didn’t look further into electronic music until after I joined elecTONIC. I would definitely say my favorite genres are trance and electro house, but I’m down with pretty much anything. I still don’t know a lot about electronic music; all I know is that I love it!

Other random facts: I might be addicted to dyeing my hair, I probably have the smallest feet known to people, and I love to sing! Definitely hit me up if you ever want to go karaokeing.

Rebecca // publicity co-chair

rebecca

Rebecca Lee is a second year Cognitive Science major and African American Studies minor from Santa Cruz. She loves all music forms but only the good shit from each genre – she obsesses over talking about how the industry is messed up. She loves to dance, write poetry, and organize events. Primarily a hip-hop head, Rebecca heard of elecTONIC through friends and joined in order to learn how to DJ. After meeting all the awesome people in the club she started listening to more electronic music and getting involved in the administrative aspects of the club, especially note-taking and publicity. On any given day it is not unusual to see her handing out fliers on upper Sproul for one of the many clubs she is involved in. Her favorite group is a hip-hop duo Atmosphere, but she is still exploring electronic artists to find a favorite artist (and genre!) within this lively culture.
